AJ Segneri - Caucus Treasurer
GPUS Fundraising Committee, Green House Campaign Committee
************************
My name is AJ Segneri. I have been with the caucus since 2009 and with the Green Party since 2008. Outside of party and caucus activities I have worked in politics and activism since 1999. During that time I have worked on state and federal political campaigns with the Democratic Party from 1999-2007, and Green Party campaigns from 2008-present. On the activism front I have worked on issues; such as LGBT, Education, the Arts, Environment, and Electoral/Campaign Finance Reform. One significant action I help organized was getting gay marriage passed in Iowa. Myself and several organizers conducted forums, rallies, and testified before the state assembly on why gay marriage needs to be accepted in Iowa. I have also been to many LGBT leadership conferences. I am also been trained as Safe Zone trainer. Within the Green Party, at the state level, I have served on committees and leadership position in both Illinois and Wisconsin Green Party. I was a member with ILGP from 2008-2010. In ILGP was the state party Treasurer, where I drafted a budget and worked with various campaigns in ILGP for candidate support. I also served as the state party Membership Steward. In the WI Green Party I am currently the Co-Chair for the state party. At the GPUS level I currently serve as the Co-Chair for the Presidential Campaign Support Committee, representing the caucus, also I do some work on the Ballot Access Committee. Outside of those committees I help other how on a temporary basis where help is needed in GPUS. Finally, I am also on the Speakers Bureau.
Here are my reasons why I would like to serve as a representative for the caucus and be re-elected as Treasurer
Green House Campaign Committee (GHCC) - As I stated previously I have worked on federal campaigns in both the Democratic and Green Party. The majoirty of that work has been with US House candidates. My experience as a campaign staffer will be of service when supporting our Green House candidates, plus my work on the Ballot Access Committee will also provide insight on what needs to happen in order to have a successful Green House candidate.
Fundraising - This is a very important committee for GPUS. Without funds we cannot operate as a national party. I would like to serve on this committee in order to help our newly hired Fundraiser reach our goals as a national party. My experience in fundraising through my activism will be of service when it comes to moving this committee forward
Caucus Treasurer - I am currently the Treasurer of this caucus, and even though I could have done more in this position I feel that this caucus is ready to move forward and I would like to be a part of it when that happens. One of the ways to do that is form a financial entity for our caucus; such as 501(c)4 or 527 in order for us to support LGBT candidates as well as various LGBT issues. Another way I would like to help out is to make this caucus more visible at various LGBT conferences. This can be done by having a Lavender Caucus Speakers Bureau. The speakers in this bureau could be panelists, keynote speakers, lead a workshop, or anything related that would pertain to a conferences needs. Also we would bring in a slight income that way as well.
I am open to any questions fellow caucus members may have. I am looking forward to your vote in these upcoming caucus elections.
